Introduce the four pillars. Build baseline fitness and fundamental skills. Help each athlete understand who they are and where they want to go.
Deepen skill work and basketball IQ. Introduce film study. Reinforce mindfulness habits. Begin challenging athletes outside their comfort zone.
Push toward peak performance. Emphasize decision-making under pressure, leading a team, and setting goals beyond basketball.
After the foundations are settled in, we find new ways to challenge more advanced athletes to keep them engaged with the game. Even if the athlete doesn't play college or professional ball, we want to make sure they feel influenced and obligated to keep up with the healthy lifestyles they have learned.
Our approach is building durable, strong athletes who can perform at a high level consistently. Strength, conditioning, skill work, and nutrition are all blended and designed to fit the needs of the athlete. Everybody has a different starting point, and that's perfectly okay. We prioritize longevity and injury prevention alongside performance. Every workout will have intent and care around it so every athlete can feel satisfied by their hard work by achieving their highest performance.
Mental wellness in sports is not talked about enough, but has become a popular topic of discussion in recent media. We want to be a part of that discussion. We have felt the hardships the game has thrown at us — the internal struggle of wondering if you are good enough to play, or the battle of fighting for minutes on the floor. The game gives you everything. But it's all about how you handle those situations that makes you a stronger, formidable athlete. At GetRight, we heavily emphasize practicing gratitude, taking breaks, and finding different outlets to release stressful emotions. This can be done through many processes such as breathing techniques and meditation. A strong body is only as strong as its mind.
Watching film is one of the most transformative methods of enhancing your game. It's a tough watch sometimes to see the mistakes and mental lapses you made in a game, but understanding why those errors happened is key for not doing them again. In film sessions, we will watch and inspect film of an athlete together and discuss ways they can improve. It's also a great way to develop training methods on how we can specifically improve on commonalities in behavior and in-game scenarios. This is our best asset at really refining skills and understanding game concepts.
Remember, basketball is the vehicle. We use the sport to teach accountability, coachability, discipline, and leadership. These intangible skills are some of the game's most important attributes because they apply to life. Basketball is a mirror image of life — almost every sport is. By upholding ourselves to high standards, we can truly be our best selves, mentally, physically, and emotionally.
